I researched and developed an Augmented Reality Experience for the Sophia Children's Hospital.
Research methods
Double Diamond Design
I structured my research through the Double Diamond Design mtethod with a research question. This built a general guideline for the project, divided in chapters with a research question per chapter.
Research Question
How can an AR experience be designed
for venipuncture procedures to effectively
distract children aged 6-12, reducing their
perception of pain and anxiety, while
maintaining their sense of control?
Customer Journey / Patient Journey
Instead of a regular customer journey, I built a patient journey to discover where the pain points opportunity areas lay for this project.
Stakeholder Interviews
I conducted 10+ qualitative stakeholder interviews and translated these insights into meaningful restults.
Stakeholder Mapping
To obtain a better understanding of all stakeholders and their underlying relations, I mapped them in an ecosystem.
Co-creation Sessions
To co-create with the target group, I facilitated a co-creation session with children. This way, I could better get through their latent knowledge on the topic.
Design Phase
Process & Methods
I visualised my design process and used different design methods for my final design.
Prototyping & 3D Modelling
I designed and modelled the main character of the design for in the Augmented Reality Experience.
User testing and validation
I tested my design with users, and validated the design with relevant stakeholders. The outcome can be found in the thesis report.
